"Wanting to avoid, yet curious to meet." The concept of "ghosts" that people have created in literature, picture books, manga, movies, and various other fields throughout history and across cultures. In reality, they exist here and there, sometimes unseen, while others have become familiar presences. Known by various names such as yokai or ghosts, they are feared and loved, and their numbers continue to grow. An unprecedented exhibition will be held where visitors can use their entire bodies to appreciate and understand these mysterious entities.
Inside the venue, the charming appeal of wanting to meet in "Barbapapa's Ghost" (by Annette Tison and Talus Taylor, translated by Haruo Yamashita, published by Kaseisha in 1972) and the terrifying desire to flee in "The No-Good, Scary Night" (written and illustrated by Keiko Sena, published by Fukuinkan Shoten in 1969) will be introduced through special exhibitions using three-dimensional displays and videos. Additionally, there will be the "Ghost Research Institute," where ghost researchers investigate and present picture books, paintings, literature, and even undiscovered ghosts, as well as various other intriguing and amusing exhibition spaces. The exhibition planning and art direction are led by Allright Graphics under the direction of Yui Takada. It's a new type of themed exhibition where a diverse range of professionals including Shin Soejima (art director), Yuichi Hashimura (architect), Toshinobu Yasumura (director of the Seikado Bunko Art Museum), and Yukiko Hiromatsu (picture book author) thoroughly delve into the world of "ghosts."
