Kameido Art Center presents Mixel Misfits Sprout, a solo exhibition by Hermippe. Known for pixel art that moves between digital and analog media, Hermippe explores new forms of expression through three-dimensional and semi-three-dimensional works made with a 3D printer, experimenting with new materials and techniques.
The title combines three ideas. “Mixel” is a coined term for mixing pixels of different resolutions. “Misfits” refers to things that are strange or out of place. “Sprout” stands for a young shoot just beginning to grow. Together, they reflect the artist’s experimental approach to unfamiliar forms and the unexpected possibilities they hold.
Inspired by how technologies, cultures and everyday objects acquire new meanings over time, the exhibition features sculptural works alongside pieces inspired by familiar objects such as record sleeves and cassette tapes. With a playful spirit and a curiosity for new materials, Hermippe explores how art can take shape beyond the frame and become part of everyday life.
