Japanese Modern and Contemporary

Isetan Shinjuku Store
Finished
With the cooperation of design galleries "Gallery Casa De," "Somewhere Tokyo," and "Objet d’art," the Isetan Shinjuku Store will hold "Japanese Modern and Contemporary" at Isetan the Space.

In the exhibition, "Objet d’art" will showcase works by Junzo Sakakura, Isamu Noguchi, Sori Yanagi, and others, as well as works by 13 artists influenced by Japanese aesthetics, including Charlotte Perriand, who has stayed in Japan and been strongly influenced by Japanese beauty standards. "Somewhere Tokyo" will exhibit and sell works by five contemporary Japanese artists.

By exhibiting works from the past alongside those of contemporary artists, we aim to reflect on the history of Japanese design, explore future diversity, and raise awareness of Japan's excellent design not only in Japan but also around the world.

In addition, Isetan Shinjuku Store will unveil the "Gallery Casa De" restoration project. The restoration project aims to apply traditional Japanese techniques from past archives to restore and reproduce excellent products designed by leveraging the talent of previous generations, thus passing them on to the next generation. Under the cooperation of the Kenmochi Design Institute, Oriental Carpet Co., Ltd. will reproduce five hand-tufted carpets designed by Isamu Kenmochi, who once handled the interior, furniture, and spatial design of Keio Plaza Hotel as a comprehensive producer. These reproductions will be available for order for the first time at Isetan the Space.

Venue: Isetan the Space, 2nd floor of the main building.
