Keiichiro Yamazaki
The “gate” between self and world marks the boundary between meaning and what exists before it takes shape. Yamazaki explores the moment when things acquire meaning and become recognizable, only to lose something of their original existence in the process. Drawing on the Gospel of John, Yamazaki considers how language shapes our perception of reality by dividing chaos into meaning. In a society increasingly overwhelmed by meaning, photography becomes a way to resist this impulse. Stripping images of narrative, emotion and interpretation, Yamazaki turns attention to what remains beyond representation, like a song that can be heard but not fully explained.
