As part of an effort to create a hotel rooted in the area of "Ueno," where art and the old town harmonize, Hotel Resol Ueno has started utilizing the living lobby art gallery, "Resol Gallery Ueno," in February this year. This space serves as a venue for encounters between emerging artists, who will shape future culture and traveling guests. Since then, it has provided a place for both hotel guests and the general public to enjoy the sensibilities and works of these up-and-coming artists.
The third featured artist, Koji Ogawa, graduated from the Graduate School of Fine Arts at Tokyo University of the Arts. He has been recognized with numerous awards, including being a candidate for the Ueno Royal Museum Award in 1990 and receiving the Beppu Contemporary Painting Exhibition Mayor's Prize Semi-Grand Prize in 1995. Since 2006, he has been an active member of the Kokuga-kai, exhibiting his works at the Kokuga-kai Exhibition (Kokuten) and holding solo exhibitions.
The works on display, including the "Ukiyo Fuji" series (2022, 2023) which pays homage to Katsushika Hokusai's "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji," and "Enoden - Kamakura High School Front -" (2023), are characterized by the impressive depiction of Mount Fuji prominently in the center. The bold and vibrant colors of these works are sure to energize viewers.
