Kohtoh Gallery presents “Waiting for the Pottery,” a solo exhibition by ceramic artist Momo Takeuchi.
Based in Kyoto, Takeuchi explores the relationship between clay, people, and everyday life, incorporating materials encountered by chance in her surroundings, including fragments of Showa-era tiles, construction waste, and earth once used to connect roof tiles.
The exhibition centers on the idea of “waiting.” During firing, clay transforms into ceramics inside a kiln heated to over 1,200°C, a process that cannot be directly observed. The maker can only imagine what is happening inside while patiently watching the temperature. Takeuchi focuses on this wordless exchange between material and maker, translating its invisible presence into scenes and gestures drawn from everyday life. Approximately 80 works will be presented.
During the exhibition, Kohtoh will also host “Neighborhood Ceramic Market,” featuring cups, vessels, and objects by six ceramic artists working in Takeuchi’s local area: TOUMAN, Kiona Hashimoto, Maomao Yangyang, Ryotaro Yamaguchi, Mitsuru Yokoyama, and Momo Takeuchi.
