Namae Myoji
Launched in 2000, Spiral Independent Creators Festival (SICF) is an open-call art festival that aspires to discover, foster, and support emerging artists and designers. This exhibition will feature the winner of the 23 Spiral Independent Creators Festival Exhibition Grand Prize, Namae Myoji, in Spiral Garden (Spiral 1F).

Namae Myoji uses her own gender identity and her past experiences and explore the female body, gender, identity in relation with consumption to create works on the themes surrounding these issues.
“Girls’ toys” often appear as a motif, expressing the suggestions made, since an early age, to children, orientating their taste depending on gender, limiting them in the exploration of various “identities”.
In recent years, in addition to exploring her own experiences, she has developed multi-layered installations bringing together various mediums such as video and three-dimensional works, using stories like myths and plays, creating a theatrical space. Her work embrace diverse and complex current issues, that we tend to internalized, such as gender and sexuality, as well as family related matters.

In this exhibition, we present her new video installation, exploring themes related to violence such as the sexual violence hidden in social structures, inspired by "The Metamorphoses" of Roman poet Ovid and monsters from the Greek mythology.
