"Noto Peninsula Earthquake Reconstruction Support Project - Revive Noto: Artists Nurtured by Noto"

Ishikawa Prefectural Museum of Art
Until Jun 23
"Noto embodies kindness right down to its soil." This is a phrase that has been passed down from ancient times in this region. It symbolizes the kindness, modesty, and underlying strength of the people who live in Noto, reflecting the nurturing environment of Noto that has shaped such individuals.

The peaceful and tranquil daily life in Noto was drastically altered by the major earthquake that struck this region on New Year's Day this year. Many people were left in a state of confusion and stood still, unsure of what to do next.
Yet, amidst this chaos, when rescue workers arrived, locals bowed deeply and expressed their gratitude, saying, "Kinodokuna. (Thank you very much, I'm grateful)" When asked if they were facing any difficulties, they responded, "Naa, toku ni komatta koto nai, kou shite abunonoute, nukui tokoro ni oite morote, arigatai koccha. (Nah, nothing particularly troubling, it's reassuring to be safe and warm here, we're grateful)" And as the rescuers prepared to leave, they would say, "Antara, kore, chokkoshi, motte kasshima. (Take this with you, even if just a little)."

Despite being victims of the disaster themselves, they exhibited modesty in not loudly demanding anything and expressed gratitude and consideration towards others. This gentle warmth, this is the essence of the people of Noto, and their way of life is like a treasure of this country that has been
forgotten somewhere along the way.

This exhibition introduces the works of artists who were born in Noto and continue to thrive here, as well as those who have left their hometown to create art in new places, and those who express their thoughts and feelings about Noto through their art. Each piece is nurtured by Noto and reflects the allure of Noto.
In addition to the artworks held in our museum, we have reached out to museums and galleries in cities and towns south of Kanazawa, as well as collaborated with the Hokkoku Shimbun, which supports local artist activities and holds numerous high-quality works, to plan this exhibition with the shared goal of supporting Noto in Ishikawa Prefecture.
