Osamu Ochi Exhibition

Fukuoka Art Museum
Finished

Artists

Osamu Ochi
The artist Osamu Ochi (1936-2015) was a member of the avant-garde art group "Kyushu-ha," based in Fukuoka. He continued to express visions emanating from within as a solitary figure until his later years. In the late 1950s, he discovered asphalt and everyday items as materials for expression, causing a new sensation in the art world at that time. From the late 1960s, after experiencing a period in the United States, he created his unique painted spaces. This exhibition is the museum's first attempt to showcase approximately 180 works and materials spanning from the Kyushu-ha era to his later years, tracing his diverse activities.
