Takashi Nemoto + Ken Hamaguchi Exhibition

Finished
Takashi Nemoto, a unique manga artist who has been at the forefront of Japan's subculture since the 1980s, captures the darkness and frustrations of society, depicting human life as a vividly surreal entity. Beyond the world of manga, he is recognized as a leading figure in popular culture, influencing not only art but also music.

On the other hand, Ken Hamaguchi, leveraging his exceptional drawing skills cultivated as a realistic painter, passionately combines his extensive knowledge and humor gained from alternative culture to create an enigmatic painting style. He has garnered enthusiastic support for his work, spanning from music to alternative culture.

The chaotic and unrestrained worlds depicted by these two artists visualize the darker aspects of a world that cannot be explained by mere platitudes. They boldly pry open the societal underbelly that we may have deliberately averted our gaze from, exposing it for all to see. However, when looking at their tumultuous works from a slightly different perspective, they reveal an abundance of charming humor, beauty, and unexpected expansions of thought and sensation.

In this exhibition, Hamaguchi confronts his mentor, Takashi Nemoto, and the two engage in their first attempt at influencing each other while harmoniously blending their differences. The exhibition will showcase numerous collaborative works specially created by both artists for this event. Additionally, a limited quantity of special collaborative T-shirts will be available for introduction.
