The 100th Anniversary of "Manifeste du surréalisme" - Surrealism and Japan

Itabashi Art Museum
Finished
Surrealism was the 20th century's largest art movement. Born in France, this movement had a profound influence on art, thought, and culture around the world, captivating Japanese artists as well. This exhibition commemorating the 100th anniversary of André Breton's "Surrealist Manifesto," introduces a diverse range of images through works influenced by Surrealism. Artists such as Seijo Togo and Ichiro Fukuzawa, who attended the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts and the Tokyo School of Fine Arts, as well as post-war painters like Kikuo Yamashita, showcase their Surrealism-inspired pieces. Simultaneously, the exhibition reflects on the era in which they lived.
