Tomoko Konoike
In her previous exhibitions "Birth of Seeing" at Takamatsu City Museum of Art and Shizuoka Prefectural Museum of Art, Konoike created an exhibition structure that encouraged visitors to use their bodies to appreciate her works by installing them outside of the museum and having visitors come and go between the museum and the exhibition space.

The works installed in different locations looked completely different from each other, and the experience of seeing them in different environments changed the way visitors felt, reminding them that seeing is not the only way to “see." In addition, by showing the geological survey boring materials that were exhibited in Takamatsu and old blueprints of the museum, visitors were made to feel as if they had seen the secrets of the place where they were standing and experienced a sense of excitement and thrill.

This exhibition will show materials and artworks that give visitors a glimpse into the structure of the exhibitions that Konoike has created so far while traveling back and forth between the gallery and the artworks on display at both the New National Museum and Midtown during the Roppongi Art Night.

The exhibition will also include correspondence with Tomotake Kinoshita, a historian who is deaf, installation videos of large-scale artworks, and conceptual sketches for each museum's exhibition, as well as a reading space named "Depth Library" where visitors can peruse books and other materials.

By taking a closer look at the exhibition and the process of creating the works in a quiet gallery away from the hustle and bustle of Roppongi, the exhibition will serve as a relay point to connect the baton between what Konoike has attempted in her previous exhibitions in Takamatsu and Shizuoka, and what she will attempt at the Aomori Museum of Art next year.
