Artists

Ryuichi Sakamoto et al.
The connection between the musician Ryuichi Sakamoto, who passed away on March 28, 2023, and ICC (InterCommunication Center) dates back to the pre-opening period (1991–). In addition to concerts linked to exhibition planning (such as the Laurie Anderson exhibition in 2005) and the ICC's 10th and 20th-anniversary commemorative exhibitions organized by Sakamoto (and Shiro Takatani), the artist has had a deep involvement with ICC.

Sakamoto himself has been interested in the internet since the early 1990s and actively incorporated media technology into his works, including conducting internet live performances. Starting from the collaboration with media artist Toshio Iwai in 1996, Sakamoto has been involved in the production of numerous works in the field of contemporary art and media art, collaborating with artists such as Carsten Nicolai, Shiro Takatani, Masato Mabuchi, and Yuko Mohri in installations.

The exhibition explores Sakamoto's significant contributions to the field of media art and serves as a tribute to his achievements. Co-curated by Daito Manabe of Rhizomatiks, the exhibition comprises works based on Sakamoto's performance data, works by domestic and international artists associated with Sakamoto, and records of previous exhibitions at ICC. The goal is to inherit and develop Sakamoto's activities, presenting an image of Ryuichi Sakamoto for the future.

Various events are planned during the exhibition, including talks, symposiums, screenings, concerts, and more, featuring curators, exhibiting artists, and guests.
