Washoku: Nature and Culture in Japanese Cuisine

Ten years have passed since Japanese food was registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. This exhibition introduces Japanese food, which is attracting increasing attention around the world, from multiple perspectives, including science and history, along with a wide variety of specimens and materials.

The exhibition will introduce the variety of ingredients nurtured by the nature of the Japanese archipelago, the techniques developed by the wisdom and ingenuity of the people, the historical transition, and the future of Japanese food, and will highlight the appeal of Japanese food, which may seem familiar but is surprisingly unknown.
