Artists

Yoriyas (Yassine Alaoui Ismaili)
Yoriyas (Yassine Alaoui Ismaili), former breakdancer, transitioned to photography in 2015 and gained global recognition for the unique style in compositions. Recently highlighted by The New York Times as an emerging artist, Yoriyas incorporates the dance background and passion for mathematics and chess into the compositions. Rediscovering love for chess in a Casablanca cafe, Yoriyas captured the diverse crowd of all ages, genders, and social statuses who gathered there, continuing to play even after the lights went out, using the light from their cell phones. Through the photography, Yoriyas portrays the everyday life of the cafe and the connections formed through chess, symbolizing the interplay of black and white, darkness and light, contrast and harmony. Yoriyas has also been invited as a featured artist for the main program at the Kyotographie Kyoto International Photography Festival 2024, with Agnès B. supporting the exhibition "Casablanca Not the Movie."
