Sign design is usually thought of as two-dimensional (2D), but atypical creator Masaki Hiromura has focused his attention on what visual effects are produced when it is situated in a three-dimensional (3D) space, engaging in collaborations with a number of architects and photographers to demolish the conventional concepts of sign planning and VI planning.
The first floor of this exhibition adopts arrows and the alphabet as motifs, showing how the arrow symbol itself can take on new meanings unavailable in flat surfaces as it acquires the expression of movement within space. And words have no form in themselves, but giving them solid volume may change the way in which they are understood... Hiromura attempts to express and validate these ideas by completely covering the walls with video and graphic design. The basement floor displays photographs and graphics of representative works from the Yokosuka Museum of Art, the Takeo Tokyo Bay Distribution Center, the Nissan Design Center, and others, and the entire wall surface uses video and graphics to describe the creative process for graphic design and spatial design and the ways in which they interact.
