Fumie Hiratai Exhibition

A Piece of Space APS
Finished

Artists

Fumie Hiratai
Ever since Fumie Hiratai was selected in the first VOCA exhibition in 1994 at the age of 26 (as the youngest participant), she has been developing her career as an artist, constantly exhibiting in Osaka and Tokyo. In 2002 and 2003, she received a grant from the Agency of Cultural Affairs to work in Belgium for a year. Using oil paint and oil stick, she creates a delicately controlled color field, exploring the ambiguous dimension between abstract and representational painting. Her canvas filled with complex layers of colors and light pleases the eye.

This time, Hiratai's 20 paintings that reveal her evolving style are on display at APS as well as Gallery Camellia located on the same floor. Postcard-size brochure accompanied by an essay by curator Shogo Otani will be published to coincide this exhibition.
