Shihoko Fukumoto has continued to take on new challenges in the field between indigo dyeing and contemporary art since the 1970s and in the process of creation has come to encounter a whole range of unique cloth from different eras and regions, caught in history and culture.
In recent years she has been attempting to revive certain historic techniques of dyeing which are in danger of becoming extinct.
In this exhibition she showcases her latest “After Image” series alongside previous works including the reconstruction of handmade mountain clothes into abstract 2D art pieces.
