Animals of Meissen

Panasonic Shiodome Museum of Art
Finished
The Meissen porcelain manufactory in Germany was the first European factory to successfully produce porcelain. This exhibition focuses on Meissen-made animal statuettes, which were produced beginning in the 18th century. The animal figurines produced at Meissen, particularly during the art nouveau period, were both realistic and charming, successfully expressing the tender nature of the animals. By focusing on these works, this exhibition offers a new approach to examining Meissen’s sculpting and decoration techniques.
