Yokoyama Taikan, Uemura Shōen, Kaburaki Kiyokata, Murakami Kagaku et al.
Spotlighting Taikan Yokoyama (1868-1958), a master hand of Mt. Fuji paintings, Shoen Uemura (1875-1949) and Kiyokata Kaburaki(1878-1972), who devoted themselves to beauty portraits (bijin-ga), and Kagaku Murakami (1888-1939), who created numerous paintings of Kannon (the goddess of mercy). Over the course of the Meiji, Taisho and Showa eras, these artists sought new forms of expression between tradition and innovation, creating vibrant and captivating works of art.

This exhibition presents Japanese paintings from East to West, with a focus on painters from Tokyo and Kyoto, bringing together some of the finest works of the Okada Museum of Art collection. These include Taikan Yokoyama’s masterpiece “Mt. Fuji”, Shoen Uemura’s most famous beauty portrait “Shiokumi Japanese Dance,” and Gyoshu Hayami’s suiboku-ga ink painting masterpiece “Magnolia (Noble Flowers in Spring Garden).” In addition, all seven works of Shunso Hishida, who died at the young age of 36, will be on display in commemoration of the 110th anniversary of his death.
