“ArtSticker” platform operator The Chain Museum is set to open its third art space in Tokyo, “Gallery & Restaurant Butaiura,” on November 24 in the new Azabudai Hills. The opening will be celebrated with a solo exhibition of contemporary artist Izumi Kato.
Born in 1969 in Shimane Prefecture, Izumi Kato began his painting career in the late 1990s. Known for creating three-dimensional pieces in various materials, in recent years, he has been painting directly on natural stone instead of carving rocks and experimenting with stone casting to expand his creative horizons. Following his overseas debut of aluminum sculptures, this exhibition will be Kato’s first presentation of large-scale aluminum sculptures in Japan.
“Gallery & Restaurant Butaiura” is designed not only as a space to experience art but also as a place to enjoy conversation over a meal. The venue offers a unique atmosphere where visitors can savor simple and casual starters, progress to authentic main courses, and enjoy freshly baked homemade bread.
The Azabudai Hills will become home to public art installations by Olafur Eliasson and Yoshitomo Nara and is set to welcome the new teamLab Borderless in January next year. Stay tuned to learn more about the upcoming shows and the facilities of the new Tokyo landmark.
