Matabee Iwasa, Moronobu Hishikawa, Utamaro Kitagawa, Sharaku Toshusai, Hokusai Katsushika, Kuniyoshi Utagawa et al.
Ukiyo-e are often associated with prints, but brush-painted Ukiyo-e actually developed earlier with deeply complex coloring methods and striking brushwork. Beginning with masters such as Matabee Iwasa, this exhibition introduces around 125 hand-painted Ukiyo-e by 60 artists including Moronobu Hishikawa, Utamaro Kitagawa, and Hokusai Katsushika. Displays include Important Cultural Properties, newly discovered works, rediscovered works, and 40 paintings on public display for the first time.
