This museum houses and exhibits many works by Hokusai Katsushika, the world-famous ukiyoe artist born in Sumida. The museum introduces a wide range of works by Hokusai and his students, as well as the relationship between Hokusai and Sumida in an easy-to-understand manner. There are also special exhibitions on various themes, where visitors can enjoy Ukiyo-e woodblock prints by Hokusai and his pupils. Since the exhibits change with each special exhibition, visitors can enjoy a wide variety of works throughout the year. The museum's distinctive building, designed by world-renowned architect Kazuyo Sejima, is also an attraction.
