Mirocomachiko (1981-) burst onto the publishing scene with her debut picture book, "The Wolf is Flying," which was filled with imaginative and dynamic brushstrokes. On the other hand, her activities as a painter are also attracting attention, as she spontaneously draws creatures and plants on her large paintings, and sometimes paints improvisationally while resonating with a musician.
In the 10 years since her debut, Mirocomachiko has gained the support of a wide range of people of all ages, both men and women, as a picture book author and painter, and has become a presence that designers and artists alike take note of. In recent years, in addition to her traditional energetic and unprecedented image, her expression has changed to one that evokes some kind of spiritual presence, and one can sense the further expansion of her world. This may be due, in no small part, to the fact that Mirocomachiko moved to Amami Oshima, an island rich in nature, and began to live in a different time flow and environment, as well as to his contact with the traditional dye culture of the area.
This exhibition, themed "Who is Mirocomachiko?", will present a selection of Mirocomachiko's recent and new paintings, original illustrations for picture books, book covers, and collaborations with companies, as well as her life and work on Amami Oshima, in an attempt to discover the unfathomable appeal of Mirocomachiko.
