Honami Matsuo
The exhibition features sculptures, relief-like works and comics available for purchase. The artist tears up comic books, compresses the pieces into solid masses and carves into them, carves figures that blend into the landscape of a wooded area, and turns personal experiences into comics.
These practices may seem unrelated, but they share two processes: creating materials or situations, and borrowing existing forms to make something new. The exhibition title, Self-Made + Self-Performed, brings these two approaches together. Unlike doodles, which appear on a whim and can easily disappear, these works have somehow managed to survive. The exhibition offers a chance to encounter the forms they have taken along the way.
