This exhibition presents works made primarily through wood engraving, exploring the connections between mythology, personal memory, bodily sensations and society. Myth and memory, reality and fiction, past and present intertwine, allowing multiple stories to coexist without settling into a single narrative.
The title, Monster, refers to the Minotaur from Greek mythology, a half-human, half-bull creature born under a curse, feared by the gods and confined to a labyrinth. The artist draws on this figure to express feelings of loneliness and alienation experienced while coming to terms with sexual identity.
Longstanding struggles with self-esteem and a sense of disconnection from society have sometimes led to the feeling of being a monster when comparing oneself to others. Through this exhibition, the artist hopes to invite visitors to reflect on their own experiences of otherness and difference. By carving into wood and printing its surface, fragments of memory and sensations held in the body take shape, opening up questions about how personal stories are reshaped within broader social and cultural contexts.
