The Nerima Art Museum opened in 1985 as the third municipal art museum in Tokyo. Focusing mainly on modern and contemporary Japanese art, in recent years the museum has been planning exhibitions that open up new perspectives by expanding the boundaries of time period, region, and genre to include ukiyoe, Western painting, and picture books.

In addition, the museum collects modern and contemporary Japanese artwork from a broad perspective, focusing on local artists such as Aimitsu and Gyoji Nomiyama, and holds exhibitions based on its collection on a regular basis. Information about the collection is also available on the internet.

Aiming to be a friendly and familiar art museum, the museum also offers a variety of educational programs so that people of all ages can enjoy art with ease. Additionally, the museum rents out its creative room and gallery as a place for residents to create and present their works.

The museum is adjacent to the "Bijutsu no Mori Green Space" where 32 animal sculptures are installed, making it a place of relaxation for the community.
