The Sen-Oku Hakukokan Tokyo opened in 2002 as a branch of the Sen-Oku Hakukokan (Shikagaya, Kyoto) on the site of the former Azabu villa of the Sumitomo family in Roppongi, Minato-ku, Tokyo. Combined with a garden that preserves the atmosphere of the past, the museum has the feel of an urban retreat. After renovation work starting in 2020, the museum will reopen under the new name "Izumiya Hakukokan Tokyo" in the spring of 2022, the 20th anniversary of the museum's opening.
