Operation Table(QMAC)

Operation Table is an artist-in-residence/alternative space, located in a Yahatahigashi ward in a renovated former veterinary clinic.
The tiles on the walls and the floor are left as they were, the operation tables and the shadowless lamps, the shelves used for medical equipment, are all used as exhibition tools. The three operation tables at the center are the main focus of the space. The 19th-century French poet Comte de Lautréamont's words, "the chance encounter of a sewing machine and an umbrella on an operating table," have left a big influence on the surrealists and became a verse that stimulated new thoughts in the artistic movemnts at the beginning of 20th century. Such "shocking encounter of two diverse things" is the slogan of our space. We hope it becomes a space that conveys the joy and surprise of art, born from unexpected approaches.
