Galerie Shimon opened as a contemporary art gallery in 1987. Focusing on young and mid-career artists from Japan and Asia, it holds six to eight exhibitions a year, introducing a wide range of contemporary artists. It also rents space to promising young artists.
The gallery’s principles are rooted in representing artists with a perpetual interest in how art interacts with society while living in the same era as its young artists.
Galerie Shimon believes originality, excellent technique, clear concepts and message, a refined spirit, and purity of expression are all necessary in a work of art. History, the era, and the economy all influence the creation of art, but in any age, art is something made by humans. It is an expression of the human spirit. The gallery believes people naturally have a strong interest in and desire for art that makes life more sophisticated and fulfilled. It hopes to assist artists who continually strive to improve.
