Shimodate Museum of Art

Since its opening in November 2003, the Shimodate Museum of Art has collected and exhibited works by various artists, such as ceramic artist Hazan Itaya, Western-style painter Shigeru Morita, as well as calligraphy artistTesshin Asaka and lacquer artist Isao Onishi. In addition, the museum also holds various special exhibitions, workshops, and art events. The Artelio (Shimodate Community Center), which is also home to the Shimodate Museum of Art, was designed by Yoshiro Ikehara (1928-2017).
