Will Rogan + Yuki Okumura "Everyday"
This event has ended.
This is a two-person exhibition featuring new film and photogrpahic works by Japanese artist Yuki Okumura and San Francisco based artist Will Rogan. Will Rogan’s work was recently on view in Tokyo as part of the Mori Art Museum exibition "All About Laughter : Humor in Contemporyary Art"; Okumura’s film, "Countdown in NYC" was concurrently screened at the Mori as part of the MAM Screenings series.
Will Rogan was born in 1975 in Highland Park, Illinois. Presently based in San Francisco, Will received his MFA from the Univeristy of California at Berkeley in 2006. Will Rogan’s photographs and films capture the extraordinary in the everyday. Without the aid of any form of digital manipulation, his process is analogue in spirit - images of such banal things and occurences as parked cars, street signage and a footprint in the pavement elicit a sense of gentle wonder at the world. The present exhibition will feature a new film work created by the artist in Japan as well as a selection of new and recent photographs.
Yuki Okumura was born in 1978 in Aomori, Japan. Okumura received his MFA from the Tokyo National Univeristy of Fine Arts and Music in 2004. Yuki Okumra creates semi-site-specific film and photographic works which, through the use of techniques such as rudimentary film editing and digital manipulation push against and - at least in an imaginary sense - extend the boundaries of the everyday. Okumura’s works rely on a shared human understanding of the world and serve to highlight the limitations inherent in adhering to the expected.
