Shiro Takatani "Photo-Gene"
This event has ended.
This exhibition features Takatani's new series of monochrome photographs. Most of his video works are the accumulation of multiple still images, and he has been investigating the similarities and differences in video and photography with the idea that they fundamentally share the same origin. These two media capture images through a lens and yet they come to exist in completely different forms, one as data, and the other as print.
The series of photographs from this exhibition are images of clouds in the sky shot intermittently, showing random results according to the weather and time of the day. For Takatani, photography is a method of recording a subject, no matter what it is, and printing is a way of physically proving its existence, and retaining its memory. Video can function in a same way in terms of the end result, but its lack of physicality turns him to pursue photography.
