Masaki Ogihara Exhibition
Gallery Hashimoto
This event has ended.
Ogihara was born in Yamanashi prefecture in 1968. After graduating from the engineering department at university, he worked as an engineer, and still works full-time in this capacity. Without having been near an art school "art education", Ogihara found himself with the initial impulse to paint in the limited time available to him, and not being able to stop.
His color palette of dark, heavy and saturated pinks, light blues and yellows, along with an elegant line, are fused with incredible shapes that escape being either figurative or abstract, assuming a somewhat cosmic, futuristic aspect. Ogihara's works seem to hint at the existence of a place that quietly awaits us, "somewhere that isn't here", while we continue our daily lives with a faint sense of unease and impatience.
Ogihara received the Kazuyo Sejima prize at Geisai #7 in 2005. This is his first solo gallery exhibition at the age of 39.
