Charles Fréger “Yokainoshima”

French photographer Charles Fréger has traveled to 58 different locations around the north to the south of the Japan archipelago, observing fields, mountains, forests and coasts and documenting the many rituals and festivals to be found there. With a particular eye for the gods and demons, the monsters symbolizing the fears of the people of this land, attempting to touch upon the roots of these characters. With an exhibition design mastered by young architect Junpei Matsushima, Yokainshima forms the center of a collection also including Wilder Mann amongst 100 pieces.
