Yusuke Toda collects images from internet searches and creates sketches from them, which he turns into paintings on canvas so precise it seems as though they could have been printed. This exhibit features his “dot printings” that apply paint to silkscreening methods to create an array of new expressions. These works are partially painted by brush and partially silkscreened from computer-processed data with paint as well as ink, an approach that adds mechanical and regulated textures to the canvas. Toda’s process of repetitively replacing images results in portraits of “strangers” that deviate from the conventions of painting.
