poster for Sanemasa Namonaki Exhibition

This event has ended.

Sanemasa Namonaki, an internet painter who presents his works on the internet and social networking sites in parallel with his exhibitions, began posting and presenting his works on Twitter in 2015 and has been creating works on the theme of the similarity between personalities and images on the internet and anime characters. Mainly through paintings and drawings, he creates images of the “ghostly” ubiquity of imaginatively deconstructed characters. In recent years, he has had solo exhibitions at On Sundays in the basement of the Watari-um Museum of Contemporary Art and Light Seed Gallery and participated in a group exhibition at the Contemporary Art Museum Kumamoto.

This exhibition will show Namonaki’s latest works, which are a new expression that he has been working on in recent years, in which images emerge by shining a black light. The characters that have appeared ghostly in his paintings will come to life in the darkness and will be seen from a new perspective. A zine will be released in conjunction with this exhibition.
