[Image: Keisuke Iwae (2021) Steel 8 x 8 x 8cm Emu Nagasaka "Material for Material” (2021) Steel plate, red ocher 30×35cm]
Both Keisuke Iwae and Emu Nagasaka use steel as a material and present their works in various forms such as two-dimensional, three-dimensional, and installation. Although their themes and approaches to production are different, both are fascinated by the potential hidden in the material iron and create their works as if to confirm the intersection between the specificity of the material and their own expression.
Keisuke Iwae’s works are inspired by the slight sense of discomfort he feels in his daily life. His motivation for creating his works always starts from the perspective of what is not there, and he tries to make “things” and “things” that we cannot see but feel richer than what is there.
Emu Nagasaka’s theme is to reexamine the close relationship between people and materials, and the roots of that relationship. Iron, an essential material for life and indispensable material for the foundation of industry.
