A three-dimensional work with shiny microbeads covering the surface, the two-dimensional work “Direction” with ink dripping straight onto the screen following gravity, and the “Velvet” series with fine villi filling the surface of the sculpture. All of the works in this exhibition are lent from the collection of a private collector and feature the work of Kohei Nawa.
Nawa is an artist who has developed unprecedented possibilities for contemporary sculpture through his multi-faceted expression of designing spaces themselves using cutting-edge materials and technologies. He has collaborated with many creators in various fields such as fashion, architecture, and music, and is widely recognized beyond the field of art.
By reducing the materials seen in daily life to microscopic “cells” such as dots and particles, and then adding the energy of multiplication and repetition, he reconstructs them into forms that numb the senses. By manipulating the cells that control all things in the forest tactilely, he visualizes abstract images such as “real and imaginary”, “object and life”, and “continuity and flux”.
In this exhibition, which is composed entirely of privately collected works, visitors will be able to feel even more strongly the artist’s taste and obsession with form. The works, which show a variety of expressions under the lighting in the exhibition room, are not only objects of appreciation for visitors, but also things that the owners share in their daily lives, having a close spatial and spiritual relationship with them.
