Usui Kojima (1873-1948) grew up in Yokohama. After graduating from Y High school in Yokohama, he began working at Yokohama Shokin Bank while simultaneously working actively as a researcher and collector of various Japanese modern artworks. He is one of the rare cultural figures of Yokohama in the Meiji era.
Yokohama Museum of Art has over 900 print works and materials collected by Usui. This exhibition features approximately 250 works selected from his collection of Western prints, Ukiyoe block prints, stone prints, as well as water colours. As well, posthumous writings by Usui will also be displayed, putting a spotlight on the man who reached the top of various cultural activities while working at a bank.
