Aya Momose “Sample Voice”
Yokohama Museum Of Art
This event has ended.
The 2D characters of animation and video games are brought to life by their voices, endowing them with a personality beyond appearances. And yet when we hear the voices of these characters we rarely imagine the physical presence of the actors who supply this life giving force. They have become fully disembodied. Aya Momose takes up this connection between the voice and the body and sets it into context within contemporary society in observation of our relation with the other. Furthermore as she deliberately shifts the synchronization between voice and image in her work she comes to agitate the viewer’s awareness. In this exhibition Momose explores these relations further through a series of 3 new works, along with a special screening event of her past work and a facilitation of her participatory performance.
